Hey, Honey!

Can eating local honey save the planet? We think so. Protecting bees is a crucial part of supporting our local ecosystem, especially given the influence of harmful chemicals and GMO's that run rampant in agriculture today.  When bees pollinate plants on organic farms and natural pastures, the honey they produce is better for everyone.  Consuming local honey has many health benefits, like building allergenic immunity to pollen found in our region.  Not only is it delicious to drink in your favorite hot tea, or as a sugar substitute on your cereal or dessert recipe, honey can also be used topically as a remedy for burns and other skin conditions.

Bee hives have been kept on McElroy Farms for some time.  Because our friends and families loved it so much, we decided to jar it up and sell it.  The name PURE GOLD was chosen by my bees-ness partner, Brian, as a nod to its purity and value that bees hold in our ecosystem.  Our first few batches were available in 12 oz jars and included a wooden honey dipper. The lids included a custom hole for the dipper handle to stick out, so that you could store the dipper inside the jar.

We found a small boutique grocery store in Detroit to buy cases from us at a whole sale price, and sold on instagram and through the farm's facebook page.  I offered a discount to people in my herbal extracts class, and soon we had a following of honey-lovers and could hardly keep up with demand.

After launching the McElroy Farm website, it was even easier to order PURE GOLD, so on this latest batch, we decided to upgrade! We discontinued our little 12oz jars, but are now proud to announce that honey will be available in 2 new sizes:
16 oz ($15) and 32 oz ($25) jars.

How do you get the GOLD??

Because I live in Detroit, and most of our inventory is here, if you live nearby- you're in luck! Same-day pick up is almost always an option.  We also have wholesale and custom order options available to suit your needs.

You may use PayPal (melanie.mcelroy@gmail.com) or venmo (@Melanie-McElroy-4) to reserve your jars.  For meat purchases, please go through the mcelroyfarms.com website.
